Program Requirements
Most people who contact us mostly want to know one thing:
"What exactly does Cold River Academy require?"
This page answers that question. What we require is based
mostly on what the state requires. At times, our program
requirements exceed the state minimum. We have set these
policies in order to be sure that all of your family's information is
as complete and up to date as possible at all times. For all
required information, we provide very simple, easy to use forms
that take only a few minutes to fill out. We strive to keep your
paperwork at a minimum. The information we do ask for allows
us to better serve you by having up to date records of your
family's study methods, attendance, grades, and general family
situation. If you have any questions about our program
requirements or the records we keep, please feel free to contact
us.
Required at the time of enrollment:
Read the complete Parent Information Packet
Complete and sign the Enrollment Form- this form includes
general information, such as names, address, birth dates, grade
level, and any previous schools attended. This form is a single
page, and must be updated at the beginning of each school year.
Authorization for Transfer of Student Records- this form allows us
to obtain your children's cumulative records from their previous
school. When receiving enrollment forms by e-mail, this will be
mailed to you after enrollment.
Complete the appropriate Course of Study Outline for each child-
this is a basic outline of what curriculum or methods you intend to
use for each child during the upcoming school year. There is one
form for grades 1 through 6, and another form for grades 7 though
12, which reflect the required courses of study for these grades.
This form is updated at the beginning of each school year. You
are free to adjust your curriculum and /or methods at any time
without needing to update this form, as it is only a basic outline.
Complete the Parent-Teacher Qualifications Form- this form is
our proof that you are qualified to teach your children. You should
include work or volunteer experience, degrees, certificates, or
other education, books you have read related to education or
homeschooling, meetings, trainings, or lectures you have
attended, or anything else you feel qualifies you as your children's
teacher. You may include a resume in lieu of this form if you
choose. This form only needs to be submitted when you first
enroll. You may send us any important updates that you wish to
have included by mail, phone, or e-mail at any time, and we will
be happy to update your file.
Complete the Family Questionnaire- this form gives us general
information about your family situation. It allows us to determine
whether you are legally eligible to homeschool through our
program (Teaching-parents become volunteer full time teachers
in our private school. Private school teachers can not be
registered sex offenders, and can not have been convicted of any
violent or drug-related felonies.), and how we can best serve your
family's needs. It lets us get to know your family (how many
children live in your home, when each parent works, what
homeschooling method or style you choose, etc.) without having
to intrude on your life or your home.
Read the Parent Contract, Sign, and Date- this contract details
our requirements shows that you agree to follow Cold River
Academy's policies and regulations.
Child Health Information- this includes a copy of your child's
immunization record and evidence of appropriate health
screenings or the appropriate waivers. All children in California
are to receive a physical exam before starting first grade. If you
need information about how to get this documentation, please
contact the school. If you are enrolling online, you will be required
to mail, email or fax a copy of this information to the school within
ten days of enrollment.
Pay the Appropriate Fees- all fees are due at the time of
enrollment. We are unable to complete the enrollment process
before payment is made, or acceptable arrangements are met.
Make all checks or money orders payable to Cold River
Academy or Jeanette Dowell, the school's owner and
administrator. For information on how to pay by Western Union
or MoneyGram, please contact us.
Please note: we are usually unable to provide payment plans or future
payment arrangements. If you are in need of payment arrangements
and feel that your child's current school situation poses a threat to their
mental, emotional, or physical well-being, please contact the school's
administrator to discuss options which may be available to help you.
Cold River Academy reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.

no less than every four years.
