Services We Provide
Cold River Academy is a California private school. We
specialize in serving the homeschooling community throughout
California, and in other states and countries as needed. We
provide record keeping services, communication with school and
government officials as needed, proof of enrollment in a legal
California private school, and supportive services to our enrolled
families at minimal cost. Optional services, such as curriculum
planning and selection, mentoring and home visits, and student
contact and evaluation are available for a reasonable additional
fee.
Families enrolled in Cold River Academy enjoy the freedom to
teach their children at home without having to worry about
whether they are in compliance with the homeschooling laws.
Our simple enrollment and record keeping forms, free
curriculum consultations, optional services, and support make it
easy for families to enjoy their homeschooling journey without
having to worry about detailed record keeping requirements or
potentially bothersome contacts with school or government
officials. By meeting our requirements for teaching and record
keeping, you are in compliance with all the applicable
homeschooling laws. Attendance and grades are easy to submit
just twice a year either online or by mail or fax.
At Cold River Academy, we believe in homeschooling and know
that you need the freedom to homeschool your way because we
are real homeschoolers who are actively involved in teaching our
own children at home. We want you to be comfortable with every
stage of your homeschooling journey. That's why we are always
here to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, without
forcing you to accept services or participate in activities that you
do not need or want. Our families enjoy total control over their
schedule, homeschooling method or style, and curriculum
content. As long as you are meeting our simple requirements,
you are never required to attend activities or parent-teacher
conferences, or submit to intrusive home visits by school staff.
Your home remains a place where you and your children can live
and learn according to your own personal philosophies and
beliefs, without having to feel like you are under a homeschool
microscope!
How It Works
Families who choose to homeschool through our program enroll
their children in our California private school. Each family
chooses the curriculum and/or method that best suits their own
personal needs, philosophies, and beliefs. Parents are
encouraged to customize each child's course of study to suit the
child's best personal and educational interests. Parents submit
a course of study for each child, that they are free to modify as
needed throughout the year, with the assistance of school
personnel if needed.
Once the children are enrolled, parents take the role as the
primary teachers for their children. Parents are required to
instruct their children in the several areas of study required by
California law. Families complete at least 180 attendance days
per school year, consisting of four or more hours of educational
activity per day, according to their own schedule.
At the end of each semester, parents submit attendance and
grades to the school to be added to their children's cumulative
files. For high school students, student activity journals or other
documentation of various course work is submitted for review by
the school so that we may award credit for their studies.
From beginning to end, all contact with school or government
officials is taken care of by the school, with the exception of the
parent's need to notify the previous school that their child is being
withdrawn and enrolled in private school. From day one, families
are able to get right down to the business of homeschooling.
